MBA Welcomes New Students and Staff

Monterey Bay Academy has welcomed 235 students and four new staff for the 2007-2008 school year. The student body includes 116 new students, with several coming from other states and other countries. The new staff on campus have come from far and wide to be a part of the MBA family.

MBA’s new students have come from a variety of places this year. While the majority of students still come from California (180 total), there are also 11 states represented and 37 international students.

“MBA is great! The people are cool and there’s always something to do,” Rachel Motsenbocker, a junior from Scotts Valley, Calif. says, “I love the fact that we have students from all over the place. It’s really cool that I have classmates from across the country and across the world.”

Staff

MBA’s new faculty and staff are also enjoying their life on the coast. One new faculty member is returning to MBA. Fred Singer, who graduated from MBA in 1986, has come to teach chemistry, physics, physical science and algebra.

“It’s really weird to be back at MBA on the other side of the desk,” Fred says. “Everyday I’m teaching kids who are in the same seat I once sat in as a student in Mr. Baerg’s classes. I know I’ve got big shoes to fill, but I’m really enjoying it.”

Fred comes to MBA with his wife, Susan, a full time mom, taking care of their four boys, Jonathan, Jared, Justin and Jordan.

Also new to MBA’s science department this year is Bob Nobuhara. Bob has taught the natural sciences at Campion Adventist Academy in Loveland, Colorado for the past 13 years. With a master’s degree in bio-medical science with an emphasis in octopus physiology from Colorado State University, Bob has always had a passion for marine biology. At MBA, he’ll be teaching biology, anatomy and physiology, earth science and marine biology.

“My family and I are excited to be here at MBA,” Bob says. “The opportunities here for expanding the marine biology program and for hands-on activities are wide open. As we complete the science building renovation at MBA, we will have a top-notch facility that will provide an awesome infrastructure for education and research.”

Bob’s wife, Ruth, is also new to the MBA staff. She will be serving as the Taskforce Girls’ Dean this school year. His oldest daughter, Danielle, is a sophomore at MBA and his youngest, Marianna, is a sixth grader at VHM Christian School in Santa Cruz.

Ben Rosas is the new vice principal of finance at MBA. Ben comes to MBA from Thunderbird Adventist Academy in Scottsdale, Arizona. Originally from the Philippines, Ben has served at a number of Adventist institutions and brings a bright energy to a mundane task of number crunching.

“I love this place,” Ben says. “MBA is a nice place all around. The weather, the people, everything!”

Ben’s wife, Marilou, works as a psychiatrist at Arrowhead Hospital in southern California, where his daughter, Valene, also works as a nurse. His son, Marc, is serving in the army at Ft. Hood in Killeen, Texas.

Serving as the school nurse this year at MBA is Mark Rollins, whose four children have all attended MBA, the youngest, Hillary, is currently a junior and ASB Spiritual Vice President. Mark has worked as a nurse for almost 20 years and has been involved with MBA ever since his children started attending the school in 2000. He was even a parent sponsor on the mission trip to South Africa in 2006.

“I love being here at MBA,” Rollins says. “The kids have so much positive energy and life. I love being able to contribute to the program at MBA.”

“I cannot express how thankful I am,” Principal Tim Kubrock says. “We have such high-caliber, top quality individuals that have come to join our team this year. Boarding school takes a big commitment, but these staff have come to serve and we are blessed to have them at MBA.”
